Reality TV Goes Gambling
Welcome to the 21st Century, where made up stories and fairy tales just won’t do it for us anymore. No, these days we get our rocks off laughing at reality, especially if it’s on the telly box. Good news for the casino world though – this has sparked some of the goofiest, most glorious bets, bingo and slots of all time!
With Strictly Come Dancing strutting back onto our screens this winter, and celebrities banished back to the Get Me Out of Here jungle, it’s clear that telly is getting more and more dominated by ‘reality’ shows. For starters, casinos like Paddy Power and William Hill offer plenty of ‘novelty bets’ on everything from the next elimination on X Factor to ‘who dun it’ on EastEnders. Even the hosts are not exempt; there are some brilliant odds on who will be replace iconic personalities Ant & Dec!
Reality TV also gets gamblers going with a near infinite amount of online slot machine games based off famous shows! TOWIE fans in particular went wild over ‘The Only Way Is Slots’, and Betfred’s mobile casino saw a big boom in business after introducing their ‘Britain’s Got Talent Superstar Slot’. Heck, you could even play the slot on your mobile while watching the show on telly! Thank god for modern day multi-tasking, even if it does mean everyone has screen addiction.
It’s not just hard core casinos who are getting in on the action either. Plenty of online bingo sites are picking up the reality trend, especially after the introduction of popular ‘Deal or No Deal’ bingo – one of the most searched for games on the web! With a red box theme and adrenaline-pumped atmosphere, the only thing missing is Noel Edmunds himself. There’s also a Big Brother bingo site to zone out on, featuring all the latest BB clips if you fancy something more visual.
Bingo promotions and prizes are beginning to hop on the bandwagon too. Just recently, Gala Bingo launched their brand new contest – win a lesson with TV dancing Queen Louis Spence at the world famous Pineapple Studios in London! You’ve got to play their special Strictly bingo game to qualify though.
Vice versa, some game shows have taken a leaf out of gambling books. For instance there’s National Bingo Night, a hot US game show. Studio contestants don’t actually have a bingo card, but audience members do. Contestants must participate in stunt games while bingo numbers are called. If the contestant successfully completes their stunt before anyone in the studio audience gets a bingo, they can win one of various prizes. If not, then the audience member wins $5,000! Free money for just sitting there? Yes please!
Another great TV-bingo combo comes from the trending game Buzzword Bingo. To play, simply write down a number of situations you think might happen in an episode of reality TV, such as hearing a particular catchphrase or even a contestant wetting themselves. Congratulations – you’ve essentially just created a bingo card. Tick off the events as they happen and maybe even race against your friends to get the first bingo! It’s a lot of laughs.
Not real enough for you? We can’t agree more! Let’s move on to taking the piss out of our beloved world leaders. At what age will itty bitty baby Prince George first be photographed in a nightclub? Odds on this one will probably depend on how influential his Uncle Harry is! What about odds on the assassination of Barack Obama? We’re looking to you for that one, Paddy Power! Get as shocking as you like; you have free reign, because these days everything’s a gamble.
