Beeston Couple Get Engaged at Nottinghamshire Mecca Bingo Hall
Back in July, we reported on a couple who had gotten engaged at a Mecca Bingo hall in Birkenhead.
Well, it seems that love is all around at Mecca Bingo because this week Graham Morecroft, a regular at the Beeston Mecca Bingo hall, popped the question to his girlfriend Marjorite Gonsalves – also at Mecca!
It was a spontaneous gesture from the 51-year-old computer administrator, as although he was prepared with a ring, he had not yet decided whether to ask for Gonsalves’ hand in marriage. He made the proposal with the club caller’s microphone in front of cheering fellow players.
Marjorite Gonsalves said: “The proposal was such a shock, I had no idea what was about to happen when Declan the caller approached Graham with the microphone while we were enjoying a game of bingo. It was a massive surprise but certainly a happy one – I had to keep asking fellow customers if it had really happened! Mecca Bingo is one of my favourite places and I introduced Graham to the game, so it’s really sweet that this was the location he chose for us to become engaged.”
The two have been friends since childhood, even living next door to one another at one point. Graham eventually moved away after joining the army and the two drifted out of contact, before his uncle reintroduced the pair at a church event.
Majorite, said: “I had a crush on him for quite a while and was so happy when our friendship blossomed into a relationship. It actually turned out that Graham’s mum had tried to set us up many times as teenagers, so it’s funny that after being failed childhood sweethearts, we’re now in love and to be married.”
Sarah O’Neill, manager at Mecca Beeston, said: “It was so lovely to see two of our regulars share such a special moment with the club. We’re so happy for Graham and Marjorite and wish them all of the luck in the world as they plan the rest of their lives together.”
