Bingo players at MJ’s in Formby near Liverpool were enjoying the regular ‘Bongo Bingo’ night last Tuesday when they got a celebrity surprise!
Actor Bradley Walsh made an appearance calling out the numbers, taking over from the usual caller, after he stopped by at MJ’s for a bite to eat!
He was in the Merseyside area to film a Farmfoods advert, and when the TV star saw that it was the special bingo night in Formby, he fancied being a bingo caller for the night!
The Bongo Bingo night is a mixture of comedy and bingo and was the invention of Southport Comedy Festival organiser Brendan Riley.
Brendan said: “Having Bradley Walsh as bingo caller was ace.
“He’s such a genuine, down-to-earth guy and he got involved and had a laugh with the audience.
“The night has proven to be very popular with people of all ages which is just what we wanted.
“A lot of people hear the word ‘bingo’ and think of pensioners, but this has elements of comedy and even game shows mixed in – it really is a great, affordable night out
There were over 60 people there last night and they were definitely pleasantly surprised to see Bradley appear on stage! Winner Jon Bauer even got a peck on the cheek off him.”
Mr Riley describes his hosting style as bringing a ‘game show kind of feel’ to the event.
