In a crime not typical of a small village in Essex, an elderly woman’s love of bingo has cost her dear.
Thieves broke into the woman’s property in Church Road, Kelvedon between 6.30pm and 10pm on Monday December 8th.
The woman, believed to be in her 70s, had gone out to play bingo, and had no idea of the crime that was taking place.
The thieves stole cash and a lottery ticket worth around £170.
Investigating officer DC Mel Burns said: “The occupant was out at a bingo meeting when the break-in took place.
“I would urge people to keep the amounts of cash in their homes to a minimum and be mindful of crime prevention advice, especially this time of year, when thieves may try and take advantage of the festive season.”
Anybody who has any information about the break-in, or who noticed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact DC Mel Burns on Essex Police 101.
