Gala's Bid for World's Biggest Bingo Card!
- Updated: December 5th, 2014
Gala Bingo seems to be going for all types of world records at the moment!
Their last record breaker was for a game of bingo with the biggest bingo balls, and now they’ve bidding for a record on a game with the biggest bingo cards!
Last month Gala, Bingo was taking a percentage of the money earned by bingo players at the site and donating it to the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS).
The finale to the raising of money for a good cause will be at Gala Bingo’s VIP Christmas party held in London on Saturday night.
And it will be there that the attempt to break the record for the biggest bingo cards will be made!
The RVS give up their time for free in order to give thousands of lonely, older people a happy Christmas – providing a festive meal and just simple companionship.
“We were keen to do something to support such a relevant and essential charity, particularly in the run up to Christmas”, said Gala Interactive Director of Gaming, Alison Digges.
“Bingo is all about sociability, as our busy chat rooms will testify! Many of our players are older or have older people in their lives. We want to create awareness that older people can often be lonely and on their own, but that needn’t be the case. By supporting the campaign, we are doing our bit to ensure that loneliness is eliminated this Christmas.”
Bingo players using the site throughout November were also in the running to win one of 10 pairs to the party – and the opportunity to be part of the world record-breaking attempt!
Celebrities they will expect to see include James Jordan of Strictly Come Dancing and Big Brother fame, TOWIE stars and also some from “Geordie Shore”.
They are keen to be involved with the record attempt, as well as raising money. And we’re not surprised they’re excited – the bingo card is said to be a massive 5 metres by 2 metres!
James Jordan said: “I’m really excited to be supporting a great cause. I totally love Christmas, and to be involved in a campaign that will be helping to make lonely older people happy this festive season feels really good. We should all get behind the campaign and do what we can for a really worthwhile charity.”
Kate Rooks, senior corporate development manager for Royal Voluntary Service, said: “Our partnership with Gala Bingo will help us raise awareness of the devastating impact of loneliness and raise vital funds to help our volunteers make a difference to someone’s Christmas this year.”
