Jackpotjoy TV Advert Banned

One of Jackpotjoy’s TV adverts has had to be pulled after the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received complaints from two viewers.

The TV advert, related to a Jackpot Heroes promotion, was banned by the body after the complaints stated that the claims in the advert were misleading.

The ASA ruled that the advert was indeed misleading – it promised “up to 10,000 jackpots every hour” could be won, but this was not the case.

The advert starred Eastenders actress Barbara Windsor, alongside two men shown loading large blue bingo balls into a slingshot. These were then flung into the air and landed in locations where people were using mobile devices to play bingo, before proceeding to explode and covering those people in gold glitter. The advert gave the clear indication that a jackpot was available to win every hour in a 24 hour period.

However, it was revealed that draws took place only 13 to 15 times a day.

The ASA said: “We considered that viewers would interpret the claim ‘every hour’ to mean there would be at least one jackpot each hour, for the entire 24-hour period.”

It was also noted by the body that the small print saying “min 13 games/day” only added to the confusion.

Profitable Play, the company behind Jackpotjoy, said full terms and conditions were posted on the website.

The Jackpot Hero message did not appear more than once in any hour, which they argued supported the ‘every hour’ claim made by the TV advert.

What do you think? Did you find the advert misleading in any way? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
