Man Avoids Jail After Stealing £5700 from a Bingo Hall

Paul Johnson, aged 52, managed to avoid a jail sentence after stealing £5700 from his employers at a bingo hall.
A manager at Rio Bingo Club in Canvey, Johnson, now of Haydon Street, Swindon, stole the cash between 1st January and 7th November 2016, and admitted to the offence at Basildon Magistrates’ Court. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence and was suspended for a year. The court heard that he had tried to place the blame on other employees, with prosecutors calling the act a “breach of trust”. Johnson also confessed to committing the theft while he was serving a suspended sentence for drink-driving.

He received a fine of £100 and was ordered to pay back the £5700.
