Most people are in it for the cash, but Manchester United player Anthony Martial is using video bingo to learn English.
The French teenager is a key player for Manchester United, but he’s struggling to grips with the English language and is finding it difficult to communicate with coaches and teammates. He only knows a handful of English words but is determined to learn enough to at least get him by so he’ll give anything a try no matter how strange it might seem.
Teammate and fellow countryman Morgan Schneiderlin, who is currently his interpreter at the club, told the striker that video bingo will help him to speed up the learning process. He reckons that it’s easier to start learning numbers before moving on to words. Martial is really lucky that Schneiderlin is there to be his eyes and ears.
Manchester United staff, players and supporters alike don’t have an issue with Martial struggling to grasp the English language if he continues to stay on top form and keep scoring goals.
The 19-year-old has only ever played in France so this is his first season out of his home country. Since he joined Manchester United on deadline day he’s been a fish to water.
He received some criticism before he even kicked a ball for Manchester United or even made an international appearance because of his outlandish transfer fee. The move from Monaco cost the club £36,000 and could potentially rise to £58,000 which is the highest ever paid for a teenager.
However, in just five appearances for the Red Devils he has scored four goals and in his international debut for France he won the man of the match. This has silenced critics who were against the club paying such a large sum for the young starlet as he’s proving to be worth every penny.
