What do you get when you combine TV shows like the X-Factor and bingo?
Well, Oldbury Mecca Bingo club is about to show us!

A nationwide search is underway for a new singing star. The club will hold live auditions and recording sessions to launch Star Search – a new talent competition being run by Mecca across the UK.

The singers voted as the best at this event will be in with a chance of joining other local and regional heat winners at a national final at the Mecca club in Blackpool in June. If chosen, you’ll spend the night at the Hilton hotel there too, with a free dinner courtesy of Mecca!

The overall winner of the Star Search winner will jet off to Los Angeles on a holiday of a lifetime for two in Hollywood. Accommodation will be provided at a Beverly Hills hotel and £2,000 spending money will be thrown in for good measure!

The auditions at the Halesowen Street bingo hall start at 5.30pm on Saturday 10th January.

Entrants will be able to select their own backing track on the night and all performances will be filmed.

All the videos will be uploaded by staff at the club to the Mecca Facebook page. People will then be able to vote for their favourites, who will then progress to the next stage of the competition.

Entries for Star Search are accepted via live auditions at Mecca bingo clubs or via the Mecca Facebook page. Singers can upload videos of themselves performing, whether onstage or just at home.

Mecca area manager for Oldbury Star Search John Dyson said: “Star Search will be one of the biggest and best talent competitions to run across the UK this year, but it is not only open to singers who think they have what it takes to hit the big time.

“We want as many entries as possible because we believe there’s a lot of hidden talent out there.

“The live auditions are great fun and are a good alternative for those who don’t want to enter online.”

Mecca Oldbury will host a small number of other live auditions before the Sunday 22nd February deadline.

You can contact the club on 0121 552 2882 to find out details for the dates of these sessions.

Entrants must be 18 and over, and the competition is open to both Mecca members or non-members.

Good luck to you if you’re entering!
