In November last year, we reported on how the Rank Group (owners of Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo) had unveiled their plans for a brand new bingo concept – Luda Bingo, which was supposed to be the bingo world’s answer to convenience supermarkets, and was to be located in high streets and retail centres, as opposed to chains like Mecca Bingo which tend to be on the outskirts of city centres.
Now, Luda are preparing to open their first site, which will mix cafe and gambling culture in hopes of appealing to a younger audience.
“Luda’s new gaming format embraces bingo’s social and community context and places it in a more accessible and contemporary environment,” the company stated. “It will bring a new customer offer and format to the gaming industry, which reflects the needs and demands of today’s busy consumer lifestyles.”
Alan Morgan, managing director of Luda Bingo and chairman of the UK Bingo Association, commented on the new brand launch: “We’re confident that the new Luda brand will appeal to a wide range of consumers, from groups of friends on a night out looking for a fun time or those seeking to take time out to recharge their batteries. Luda offers a sociable place to meet, play, try new games, have a bite to eat and relax. Our aim is to develop the concept and create a chain of venues across the UK.”
Speaking with Totally Gaming, Morgan acknowledged how the market had changed for bingo players in the face of digitalisation. “The UK bingo sector is increasingly looking to diversify from its traditional model in the face of increased pressure from digital channels, the growth of in-home entertainment, the lingering economic impacts of austerity and subsequent lack of consumer confidence, which have hit our traditional customer base hard,” he said.
Their first site in Walsall on Park Street will officially open on 7th August, according to the Walsall Advertiser. It will offer food, drink and free wi-fi alongside its gaming facilities, which will include slots and bingo – Luda hopes to showcase “the future of convenience bingo” with their brand.
“We’re thrilled to be launching our first ever Luda in Walsall,” said Morgan. “The new venue offers a convenient place to pop in and play, and is perfect for groups of friends on a night out looking for a fun time or those seeking to take time out to re-charge their batteries. The new site will offer those living locally a sociable place to meet, play, try new games, have a bite to eat and relax.”
