Last week at the prestigious Egaming Review Operator Awards (eGR) event, tombola won the title of bingo operator of the year for the third year running.
Tombola employs over 200 people at its Wylam Wharf base in Sunderland, and is one of the biggest online bingo companies in the UK.
The company had been shortlisted in four award categories, and was also highly commended in the socially responsible operator, the customer services operator and the mobile bingo operator categories.
Phil Cronin, chief executive of tombola, was delighted to have been name bingo operator of the year again.
“It’s a real feather in our cap, as were up against the biggest names in gaming. I’m thrilled for the whole tombola team, the award is recognition of their hard work, dedication and innovation.
“I’m proud of our win, and of our highly commended, and I’m proud of our team. These are the industry’s ‘Oscars’, so to win really means something.”
Tombola has a long history of success at the awards – the company has been bingo operator for four of the last five years and won the socially responsible operator of the year category last year too.
This year’s awards were held at the Roundhouse in London last Monday night, and were hosted by Irish comedian Ed Byrne.
The awards are in their 10th year and there are 25 categories in which to win.
Because tombola creates and develops its own online games for HTML and apps, it is one of the largest employers of game developers in the region.
It recently pioneered partnerships with both Sunderland College and the University of Sunderland to create the tombola academy, to train the next generation of hi-tech talent.
