Trustly is not a particularly well-known payment method in the UK. We want that to change…

Trustly was founded in Sweden in 2008 as a secure and easy digital payment method in the internet age. Originally available in Sweden, it grew across Scandinavia and Northern Europe. In 2018, Trustly is available in around 30 European countries. Spreading its wings, you can pay by Trustly in Ireland, Italy, Germany, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.

For those of you concerned about security and regulation, Trustly Group AB (the incorporated company) is regulated by the Finansinspektionen. In other words… the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority.

What is Trustly?

Trustly is neither an e-wallet nor a card. What’s more, you don’t even have to sign up to it. All you need to do a Trustly transaction on your slot site of choice are your online banking details. Trustly is a sort of facilitator for moving money in and out of your bank account.

How to use Trustly

It really could be simpler. There is no sign-up required, no long, drawn-out registration, and no extra pin numbers, or impossibly complicated passwords to remember. To start, just make sure you’ve chosen a slots site that accepts Trustly as a deposit and withdrawal method. From that point, here are the steps you need to take:

  • When you’ve signed up, make your way to the deposit page of your slots site of choice. Enter the amount you want to deposit and select Trustly as your payment method.
  • Once you’ve completed that, you’ll be given the option to choose your bank, eg. HSBC, Lloyds etc.
  • You can enter all your regular online bank details (usernames, passwords) all over a secure connection.
  • Next, you’ll be able to choose between the different types of accounts that you have with your bank. You can use either a current account or a savings account, it doesn’t matter.
  • The final step is to verify your transaction. Trustly has a secure and trustworthy way of doing so. Then, with the click of a button, your transaction will be complete.

As you can see, it really is an effective payment method that requires no excess faffing beforehand.

Why not just do a Bank Transfer?

On the face of it, this seems like a sensible question. However, the technology behind wire transfers still lags behind modern methods like this one. Because of the necessary verification checks between banks that can occur across separate continents, Banks Transfers are pretty much always the slowest way to send or receive money.

Trustly streamlines this process of transferring money to or from your bank in a secure environment. You also do not have to register prior to making the transaction. Trustly often processes payments immediately, and it is known for being one of the most efficient methods out there. This is partly to do with the strong verification checks that take place almost instantaneously.

Any Trustly Cons?

To be honest, there are very few. If we are going to get “local” about it, Trustly is not as widely available to UK customers as it could be. You are much more likely to find slot sites that accept credit and debit cards, e-Wallets like PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, and a Wire Transfer option. However, as we’ve seen from Trustly’s growth, we are likely to see so many more slot sites accepting it around the world very soon.
