Introduction

Entropay is a virtual, prepaid debit card service that you may already be familiar with if you frequent online bingo sites – it’s a popular payment method on many sites thanks to its ease of use. Much like other e-wallets like PayPal or Paysafecard, Entropay lets you keep your money separate from your bank account so you can play safely online without any worry that your bank account will be compromised (not that that should happen on a legitimate regulated online bingo site, but anyway!).

Background History

The service was founded in 2003 by Ixaris Systems with the goal of democratising online payments and removing the barriers of credit requirements and geographical restrictions – this means that Entropay can provide online payments to everyone, regardless of their location or credit worthiness. The same year, they launched the first virtual Visa cards in Europe.

15 years later they have produced over 8 million cards and continue to be a widely accepted method of payment on many sites – not just bingo, but also retail and entertainment. They are currently the fastest P2P money transfer system in the world – their website claims that their transactions take merely an hour (that’s literal DAYS faster than bank transfers).

Entropay and Bingo Sites

Most online bingo sites will accept Entropay as it works similarly to debit or credit cards – it just requires you to enter your virtual Visa card number when making your transaction, as well as your name and security code (CCV). It’s a great method for people who may not be convinced by a bingo site’s claims of security – even though you should have nothing to worry about from legitimate bingo sites holding your money, you might not feel comfortable putting your details directly into the site. Entropay adds another layer of protection between you and the bingo site, as it holds the money separately from your bank account.

Fraud Protection

As an extra layer of security to prevent unauthorised online use of your credit or debit card, Entropay participates in Verified by Visa and Mastercard SecureCode. If your bank also participates in this programme, when topping up your Entropay account, you’ll receive a Verified by Visa or Mastercard SecureCode message. You’ll then be automatically re-directed to your bank’s page to complete the verification process. Entropay can’t view or capture your data while you’re doing this – it’s completely private.

Visa uses a system called Verified by Visa for online transactions to help keep your money and details safe. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be protected whenever you make an online payment with your virtual Visa card at any one of more than 300,000 web sites across Europe. First you’ll see a personal message – a message that you provided when you signed up for Verified by Visa and that only you and your bank know about. This shows that the security screen you’re seeing is genuine. Then you’ll be asked to enter your Verified by Visa password. These steps help to ensure that it’s really you who is making a deposit and using your card.

How To Sign Up for Entropay

You can sign up for Entropay just by heading to their website and clicking the green “sign up” button at the top of their homepage. This will bring up a registration form where you can enter your details, such as your name, date of birth, and the currency in which you wish to conduct transactions. Later on in the process you’ll need to prove your identity and address – this can be done by submitting copies of documents such as bills, ID or passports. Check the terms and conditions at Entropay for a full list of accepted forms of proof.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Entropay

Advantages of Entropay:

  • Loads of bingo sites – virtually all of them! – accept Entropay as a payment method. If they accept Visa cards (and let’s be honest, have you ever seen a legitimate online bingo site that DOESN’T accept Visa?) then they’ll more than likely accept Entropay too, as it’s a similar system.
  • It adds an extra layer of security to your transactions as your money is kept separately from your bank account.
  • Super-fast withdrawal times.
  • Easy to use.

Disadvantages of Entropay:

  • Entropay charge fees to withdraw to your credit or debit card, or bank account.
  • There’s a 1% fee to top up your Entropay virtual VISA.
  • You’ll have to wait for your account to be verified before you can start using it – so it’s not immediate.

Entropay Vs Other Brands

Entropay bears some similarities to other e-wallets such as PayPal or Paysafecard, so if you’ve used those then this one won’t feel that unfamiliar. However, Entropay is more likely to be accepted as it can be used basically anywhere that Visa is accepted (which does not apply for PayPal or Paysafecard). There’s also the Verified by Visa protection that Entropay offers, which is only shared with Visa debit and credit cards – you won’t get this with Neteller or Skrill!

Entropay Usability and Registration

When you make a deposit at a bingo site, you’ll need to click on the option to deposit, then click on the Entropay logo to get started. You’ll input your deposit amount, as well as your name, the number of the virtual Visa card in your Entropay account, and the security code/CCV. Sound familiar? That’s because it’s an almost identical process to topping up using your debit or credit card – just with an extra layer of security.

Entropay Withdrawals

Withdrawal times vary from site to site, but generally Entropay is one of the fastest methods to withdraw your money. The company prides itself on fast transfer times – stating on their website that transfers aren’t hindered by bank processing times and can process within an hour as opposed to two or three days – so you can bet that once the bingo site has finished processing your withdrawal, the additional time from Entropay will be minimal.

Want to withdraw to your bank account from your Entropay account? You should see the money in your bank account within 2 to 5 business days, depending on your country’s banking network. The sender name will be either Envoy Services Ltd. or Worldpay AP Ltd. Withdrawing to a debit or credit card works similarly, but prepare to be charged a £3 fee for withdrawing to one of these.

Entropay on Mobile and Tablet

There’s not much to say about using Entropay on mobile and tablet devices – it’s pretty much the same as on desktop! You’ll still need to enter your card number and security code into the bingo site registration form, and you don’t need to log in to any external sites. We would point out that there are NO official apps as of yet for Entropay for either iPhone or Android devices – if you see one floating around online it’s most likely NOT legitimate, so don’t risk it!

Entropay Final Thoughts

We think Entropay is a really good method for payment at online bingo sites – it’s so commonly accepted that we’d be shocked to see a bingo site that doesn’t take it! The fees aren’t great but they’re to be expected, and we’ve definitely seen higher fees than the ones Entropay charge. We think that with the extra layer of security and the ease of use, having this fee is actually justified – it’s worth spending a little extra in order to keep your bank details safe. If you own a Visa debit card or credit card, we’d actually recommend Entropay over other e-wallets as you’ll already be familiar with the Verified by Visa program.

We’d rate Entropay as 8/10.
