Gamesys & Bally's Agree Merger to Crack America
Gamesys, the respected industry operator behind top online brands like MONOPOLY Casino, and Bally’s Corporation, the American slot machine legends, have agreed terms for a whopping £2 billion merger. Why & what does it all mean?
It’s been a while since the last mega mergers in the Gambling industry. It turns out that mergers are like buses and after you’ve waited a while, two come along at once.
Unlike previous mergers, these deals have a very transatlantic flavour. A takeover by Caesars Entertainment, the owners of uber-famous Las Vegas casino Caesars Palace, of British bookmaker William Hill is also expected to complete shortly.
William Hill and Caesars have a relationship dating back to 2012, as the US giant already has a 20% stake in WH’s US dealings.
The Gamesys/Bally’s deal has less history, but an incredibly exciting future. This is one of those mergers that makes complete sense because of what each side brings to the table to create an even stronger business.
Bally’s have a huge presence in the land-based US casino industry. Gamesys have an industry leading technological platform from which they operate some of the world’s best and most respected online gambling sites. When land meets air and join forces, you get a hurricane.
The industry widely expects the US online gambling market to open up in the near future. Currently, only a handful of states allow online gaming, including New Jersey, where Gamesys already operate Virgin Casino (the US remake of Virgin Games). So who better to allow Bally’s to take advantage of this potential expansion?
Likewise, Gamesys can branch out and plant their own roots in the land based market.
As summed up in the deal announcement:
“Bally’s and Gamesys believe that having a combination of both proven, developed technology and land-based platforms across key US states, with global brands, existing customer bases and complementary product offerings will be key to taking advantage of these growth opportunities.”
