What is National Bingo Day?
National Bingo Day on 27th June has existed unofficially in the UK for some time because of its status in the United States, where it has been celebrated for some time. Some bingo brands have offered promotions and events around that time over the past few years, but the date had no proper status here. Until now…
This year, National Bingo Day will be a day of awareness and celebration of one of the nation’s favourite pastimes. Both online and at bingo halls in the country’s towns and cities, bingo providers are encouraged to promote the occasion to help drum up excitement, enthusiasm and awareness for the game that we all love. Whether that’s through special promotions at bingo sites or community events at bingo halls, the industry is keen for everyone to get involved to spread the message.
Why is it happening now in 2021?
Last year, esteemed brand Mecca Bingo came up with the idea of cementing National Bingo Day’s status in the UK. But for it to become an officially observed day in the industry, it would require participation and involvement right across the sector. Otherwise it would be just a promotional gimmick by one brand.
Who is Involved?
In a show of industry solidarity, Mecca have teamed up with rivals Buzz Bingo to spread the word and build up a head of steam for the inaugural occasion. The Bingo Association have also backed the event to add some weight behind the campaign. Now, they’re reaching out to all those involved in the sector to really make the event as big as it can be.
Peter Brigden, the CRO of Buzz Bingo, stated: “What better way to celebrate the return of bingo to our towns than with a national day to recognise it. It’s time to get the nation going bingo crazy again – and I really hope to see the whole sector embrace it – and go big!”
Catherine Warrilow, the Head of PR & Digital Marketing at Mecca was equally effusive: ““We’re so excited that National Bingo Day has officially arrived in the UK. We’re proud to be a part of the campaign and it’s THE year for bingo to be the evening out at the top of everyone’s list.
