Boom City: Pragmatic Play's New Live Dice Game
Last month, Pragmatic Play launched an exciting and unique new live entertainment game called Boom City. But does the game live up to the bombastic nature of its name? We’ll take you on a trip to Boom City!
Pragmatic’s new live entertainment game is part of an increasingly popular trend of game show style products that have a glamorous live host leading the entertainment. The TV broadcast style allows a sense of inclusivity and camaraderie amongst the players. Most of all, when these games are done well, they are just damn good fun.
The popularity of live host games
Evolution Gaming very much pioneered this trend. The launch of Dream Catcher, a wheel of fortune game with a live host, proved instantly popular with players. As Evolution continued to dominate the live casino scene, especially after their acquisition of Net Ent, they continued rolling out new games in this style. Some of these included brand tie-ups like Monopoly Live.
Pragmatic Play have had an excellent couple of years, expanding into the bingo market and strengthening their platform with the inclusion of live casino games. These have been rolled out on Jumpman Gaming sites, for example, that previously did not offer live dealer content.
Boom City is a bold new live host game that eschews the prize wheel formula, for another classic casino prop; dice. With the exciting dice rolls, and a slots-like grid format, Boom City is a marriage of many things that gamers love.
How does Boom City work?
The game features a 6×6 grid with tiles showing a mix for standard multipliers, as well as some bonus tiles and power-up features. There are gold tiles with a 5x multiplier, silver tiles with a 2x multiplier, and bronze tiles with a 1x multiplier. The Power-up tiles boost the multipliers on the rest of the tiles. The three bonus games are Dice Battle, Boom or Bust and Lucky Drop which can potentially provide some big wins! There are often a couple of tiles with a red cross through them, which means you won’t win.
There are two large dice beneath the grid which roll after each new game is locked in. The numbers rolled correspond to the winning tile on the grid. So, for example, if a 3 and a 5 are rolled, then the tile that intersects the 3 and a 5 on the board wins. If this is a 2x tile for example, you’ll win two times your stake if you bet on it. If you did not bet on the silver tile, you won’t win anything. If you bet on a bonus tile, and the dice numbers correspond, you’ll then head into a bonus round with the chance to win further multipliers on your bet.
The overall return to player (RTP) of the games is 96.21%. This puts it very much in line with the most popular video slots of the day. The top multiplier is 20,000x in a round, with wins capped at an eyewatering £500,000.
What other features make this game special?
Boom City is a fantastic production, filmed in 4K definition and television streaming latency. The hosts, as usual, are spectacular at their jobs, facilitating a fun and interactive experience for all the players. You can chat with the hosts as well as the other players for a full communal experience. The portal also features a full bet history so you know exactly how you’ve been doing and you can dig into your stats.
This is one of the most exciting launches of a new live casino game in quite a while. We think the mix of top live hosts, slot-like graphics and the inclusion of dice will prove to be a hit!
