Rock 'n' Roll Bingo: The next big night out?
Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo promises to be the next big night out. So what is it and why does bingo always have a pull?
Bingo has endured as one of the Western world’s most popular social activities. But the game is no longer confined to bingo halls. Young creatives are giving bingo a shot in the arm and helping to evolve this most famous past time.
This Friday night (April 22nd 2022), The Printwork’s Bierkeller in Manchester is hosting a fun filled evening’s entertainment of popular music and daubing the old bingo cards.
The game is called Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo and it was devised by a local man who is lovingly known as “Bingo Matt.”
Apparently, over the past half a decade, he’s taken this interesting concept to the nightclubs of Indonesia and built up quite a following for it.
What is Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo and how do you play?
A simple concept that’s perfectly set up for nightclubs, players/clubbers are given bingo cards with Rock singers and Rock songs on them. A DJ will play a banging set of tunes and after each song, players daub out the correct one on the bingo card. When you’ve completed the set, shout out (and make sure it’s loud). The first to call out is the winner. Unless of course you call out but don’t have a full bingo, then apparently “appropriate shaming” will follow.
The winning players will win prizes, though these have yet to be announced for Friday’s festivities. The article in Proper Manchester simply says that the prizes are “ridiculous.”
The event in Manchester this Friday costs £8 to play, plus the price of admission. Seems like a pretty cost efficient night out in the era of £20 cinema tickets!
Where else can we play Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo?
Apart from the Manchester event in April, there’s a night being hosted in Glasgow next month at Ivory Blacks on May 28th. Check out this page here to see where more Rock ‘n’ Roll bingo events are happening!
